Training is everything

If I’m working with a professional athlete, one of the most important demands I place on them is simple: train properly.
Train like a champion. With intent. With intensity. With standards that don’t fluctuate. Because training builds trust.
When you do everything at speed, with focus and purpose, you’re not just getting fitter or sharper - you’re programming your subconscious. You’re absorbing patterns, situations, and habits that you can rely on under pressure.
If you train half-heartedly, two things are clear:
1️⃣ You think it doesn’t matter.
2️⃣ You’re comfortable leaving potential on the table.
Yes, there are stories of incredibly talented players who didn’t always train well. Eden Hazard is often mentioned. But even for the most gifted, talent without consistent standards rarely sustains greatness over time.
Many players also make the mistake of training through the motions. They tick the boxes but never properly work. Come game day, they’re left with a head full of instructions instead of a clear mind.
It’s like learning to drive: at first it’s mirror, signal, manoeuvre. These are all conscious thought. But over time, it drops into the subconscious. It becomes natural.
That’s when you perform at your best. Relaxed, clear headed, trusting yourself.
Look at any great team. The foundation was built on how well they trained.
Competition exposes what’s already there.
Training is where it’s built.
