Beware of the shiny things...
You have a goal. You are committed to it. You will be tested.
In Buddhism they talk about the 5 hinderances.
Number one is sensual desire. The 'pleasurable' experiences that take us off our path.
Mike Tyson calls in the devil in disguise.
I've seen it to be incredibly accurate.
People can be incredibly driven towards something but the first hint of success or pleasure derails them.
I see it a lot in professional football. Young players can become more interested in the side show and lose the love for getting better at their craft. Years of grating for that professional contract but now come the distractions.
The same is true for business.
Women, money, cars, nightlife, recognition, ego... All can be pleasurable. Many are there to test you to see if you stay on course. You often drift away from who you are. Who you were as that kid with the dream.
Can you remain on course? Can you remain whole?
Take a look at the 5 hinderances and see if you can recognise where they may be taking you off course. See if you can become aware and get back on track.
